We’re here to help tenants across New Zealand
Tenant Support Group is a volunteer‑run community dedicated to helping renters understand their rights, resolve tenancy issues, and feel confident dealing with landlords and property managers. If you need guidance, advocacy, or help making sense of the Residential Tenancies Act, you’re in the right place.
Our goal is simple: to make sure every tenant in Aotearoa has access to clear, accurate, practical support.
Who will respond
Your message will be answered by one of our trained volunteer tenant advocates. We’re not lawyers, but we specialise in:
- explaining tenancy rights in plain English
- helping you understand your options
- guiding you through next steps
- supporting you through stressful or unfair situations
Everything we do is grounded in the Residential Tenancies Act and real‑world experience helping thousands of renters.
How long will it take?
We aim to reply within 24–48 hours.
If your situation is urgent — for example, illegal entry, threats, or an unlawful eviction attempt — we recommend contacting Tenancy Services immediately while you wait for our reply.
Before you send your message
To help us give you the most accurate guidance, please include:
- your tenancy type (periodic or fixed‑term)
- the issue you’re facing
- what has happened so far
- any notices, emails, or messages you’ve received
- your region (optional, but helpful)
The more detail you provide, the faster we can help.
Your privacy matters
We take tenant safety seriously.
- Your information is confidential
- We never share your details with landlords or property managers
- We never publish or disclose your situation
- Your message is used only to help you
You’re safe here.
